Seconds cruise to ten wicket win against weakened Northallerton

Pace man Adam Smith proved too hot for the Northallerton batsmen to handle on Saturday

Barney II v Northallerton

Barney II, starting a week earlier than the first XI, had a crushing home victory last Saturday.

They were much too proficient for a weakened Northallerton who opted to bat.

The first wicket fell in the third over, though it could have gone much earlier, and fast bowler Adam Smith was irrepressible as he removed the top five batsmen.

This opened the way for Richard Watson’s leg spin and Cameron McKnight’s pace to remove the tail and the last six wickets fell for ten runs.

The response was clinical. Finn Usher and Owen Peddelty, both eyeing a first team berth, cantered and then galloped to victory, with an array of attacking shots.

Northallerton 55 all out (26.4 overs, D Crossland 28, A Smith 5-17, C McKnight 3-1, R Watson 2-14).

Barney 57-0 (12.1 overs, F Usher 29no, O Peddelty 21no).

Barney won by 10 wickets
