Jonathan pots black to win new junior trophy

IN THE FRAME: Competitiors Daniel Watson

Snooker

THE first ever tournament for junior members of the Teesdale Wanderers’ Club since its creation in 1891 was held during the Christmas holidays.

There were five entries and the day began with a round robin snooker tournament where the scores in points for each player were added to make a total for the morning games.

The afternoon session was a similar round robin but this time the game was billiards.

None of the young players had played billiards before so this was a learning experience for all.

When the scores for snooker and billiards were added together, both Jonathan Staley and William Wood had tied with 393.

One frame of six red snooker was played to decide the overall winner.

This came to an exciting close when it was decided by a re-spotted black.

William was unfortunate in missing a pot and Jonathan cleared up to win the frame and the tournament and new trophy.

This was such a successful tournament it will now be made an annual event.
