THE curtain came down on the dominoes season when players gathered for the Barnard Castle and District League’s finals night and presentation of prizes, held at the town’s cricket club.

League chairperson Gillian Watson reflected on a good season which included a new trophy – the Spring Cup – which was won by the Red Lion A team from Cotherstone.

It was a good night for the Red Lion players who also collected the silverware as B Division champions.

Also celebrating was the team from the Cricketers Arms, Barnard Castle, who won the team knock-out cup and finished runners-up in the B division.

The domino stars from Staiundrop’s Wheatsheaf pub collected the cup for winning the A division and were runners-up to the Cricketers in the team knock-out.

The prizes were presented by league stalwart Craig Hamilton, who plays for the Cricketers’.

He joked: “Dominoes is a game where there are no bad players, but lots of unlucky players.

“I have made many friends through dominoes over the years and met people I would never have otherwise met.”

He thanked the efforts of the new committee and added: “Hopefully, the 5s&3s league continues for many years.”
