This week’s Teesdale Mercury – Judge considers £90k payout after unfair sacking, and ‘little people take on lord of the manor’ in housing row

This week's front page

This week’s Teesdale Mercury is out now. Here’s the news.

Judge considers making Barnard Castle Town Council pay out £90,000 to an ex-staff member after she was unfairly sacked.

Gainford and Staindrop have just weeks to raise £10,000 so ‘little people can take on lord of the manor’ and stop Raby Estates building 151 homes across the two villages.

It took Durham County Council over a decade to create its recently launched masterplan for future business and housing developments, earmarking potential sites across the county.  One site on the edge of Barnard Castle wasn’t listed for homes after officers said it was unsuitable. But last week planners agreed that up to 100 houses could be built on the field, prompting Teesdale county councillors to ask: “What’s the point of the County Durham Plan.” We have a special report on the issue.
