Record numbers at Barney bands day

ON SONG: The bands day at Barnard Castle Cricket Club attracted the biggest crowd in the event's history

BARNEY’S Glastonbury is back. After a three-year gap caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Big Bands Day, at Barnard Castle Cricket Club, returned in style on Saturday.
A record crowd of more than 1,200 people flocked to the Vere Road ground to see six bands throughout the day.
From Blister In The Sun at the start to AKA Skafell at the end, they frolicked the day away.
Club president Stephen Brenkley said: “It was a tremendous day and I’m certain everyone who came had a great day out.
“This has become an important day not only for the club but in the life of the town.”
He added: “Our committee worked hard to make sure it all went smoothly. They were all superb but pride of place must go to David Robinson.
“He is to Barney’s Big Day Out what Michael Eavis is to Glastonbury, the architect of it all. Without his organisational skills and determination it wouldn’t happen.”
Mr Brenkley added: “The other stars of the show are our neighbours. Thanks very much to them for being so tolerant of what is obviously a pretty noisy day.
“We couldn’t do it without their support.”
