Pupils bed down for storytelling day in aid of trust

TELLING TALES: Teachers and pupils from Middleton-in-Teesdale read stories on a giant bed for a pyjamarama day in aid of a book charity

CHILDREN from an upper dale primary school read stories on a giant bed in aid of a book charity last week.

Middleton-in-Teesdale Primary School raised much needed cash for the Book Trust by taking part in a pyjamarama day.

A giant bed, built using a massive quilt borrowed from Richmond Theatre, formed the centrepiece of the day which was full of fun-filled book-related activities.

Teacher Kirsty Garnett said the school chose to support the Book Trust because of the work the organisation does to encourage reading among children from disadvantaged backgrounds or who have learning difficulties.

She added: “They aim to get every child reading from a young age to give them the best possible start in life.”

The day was made possible thanks to help from the school’s friends group which provided hot chocolate and cookies to add extra atmosphere for the bedtime stories that were read.

She added that activities took place throughout the day including the older children writing their own stories, which they later read to the younger ones, and other classes writing up an instruction manual on how to hold a pillow fight.
