Late night festive shopping returns to Barnard Castle

Keep it in the town is the message from Barnard Castle’s independent retailers.

Many Barney businesses have agreed to once again take part in a late-night shopping initiative in the run-up to Christmas.

Shoppers can take advantage of extended opening hours until 8pm on Wednesday, November 26 and Wednesday, December 10.

In addition, opening hours will be extended on Friday, November 28, the night this years’s traditional Christmas Lights switch-on will take place.

Fiona Brookes, of Brookes Tailors Ltd, helped organise a meeting of Barney’s independent retailers, which took place at Clarendon’s.

She said: “The purpose was to invite the town’s independent retailers to try and build on our late-night shopping, which we tried
last Christmas.

“We had one night last year and it was arranged at fairly short notice, but despite that it went really well. It was definitely worth doing and we got some very positive feedback, so we thought we’d try to build on it this year.

“The meeting went very well,” Mrs Brookes added.

“There was a good turnout and lots of enthusiasm for late-night shopping again this year. Our aim is to keep it in the town, to encourage people to shop in Barnard Castle and support local retailers.”
