Knitters keep new-born babies warm

GOOD DEED: Pauline Glasper

KNITTERS from a dale lunch club have put their skills to good use to keep new-born babies warm this winter.

Women from Startforth Lunch Club decided to knit blankets for newborns after spotting an appeal on social media.

Pauline Glasper, of the group, said: “It was in August my daughter showed me an appeal on Facebook that she thought the ladies of Startforth Lunch Club would be able to help with.

“It was for knitters to knit blankets for new born babies at the maternity unit at James Cook University Hospital.

“I photocopied the leaflet for people who would like to help and we got started.

“Once we established the size of needles and wool

there was just no stopping people.”

Each blanket is individual with a unique pattern and colour.

Mrs Glasper is delivering the blankets soon but several of the volunteer knitters are carrying on making more as they say “there is always a demand” .
