If you thought Gary’s ghostly home was good, just wait until Christmas!

SCARY NEIGHBOUR: Etherley' Gary Shaw with the friendly meerkat carvings that he has transformed into Halloween ghouls. He plans to go even better this Christmas

AN ETHERLEY resident renowned for his bright Christmas decorations transformed his home into a ghoulish retreat for Halloween.

Decorator Gary Shaw’s home is usually a friendly, inviting place with meerkat carvings peaking curiously over the boundary fence at passersby.

But the statues took on a scary demeanour after being covered with masks of werewolves, vampires and other creatures of the night.

Mr Shaw said: “It is just some fun for Halloween.”

He added that he and his neighbours are planning an “extra special” Christmas display which will include the use of laser lights this year.

In the past Mr Shaw festooned a tree in his garden with red white and blue lights to form a French Tricolore in tribute to those who died during a terrorist attack in Paris.
