Ideas sought for scaled-back Middleton-in-Teesdale carnival

MIDDLETON-in-Teesdale’s carnival is to be scaled back this year with no procession or events on the school field.
The event, which usually takes place on the first Saturday in August, is a highlight in the upper dale’s summer calendar. Organisers are now looking for innovative ways to ensure other events can take place in a modified form. Carnival chairwoman Eileen Dent said: “We want to hear if you still want some carnival events to go ahead in a modified form. For example, the village treasure hunt and scarecrow trail. We are a very creative and resourceful community, so do you have other ideas on what we could do at carnival time to have fun while still keeping us all safe?”
She suggested ideas such as decorated front gardens and fancy dress. Ms Dent added: “In the meantime, stay safe and remember, the carnival procession and main event on the school field will return in future years and no doubt will be better than ever.”
People can offer their views by visiting Middleton carnival’s page on Facebook.
