Boris Johnson calls off visit to Barney

Despite not making it to Barnard Castle

A VISIT by prime minister Boris Johnson to Barnard Castle on Monday afternoon was called off at the last minute.

People lined the street in Horsemarket, many of them Labour Party activists, in anticipation of the prime minister’s arrival which was due to take place just after 3pm.

He was due to visit Peat’s Deli and Butchers.

However, because he was late in leaving Bishop Auckland Mr Johnson’s press officers initially reduced it to a quick meeting with Conservative Party candidate Dehenna Davison.

Later they called the visit off entirely. Labour Party activists claimed that their presence may have influenced the decision.

Later Conservative party candidate for Bishop Auckland, Dehenna Davison said the visit was cancelled because of safety concerns.
