Seasonal treats for retired farmers

COOKING UP A TREAT: Utass volunteers Lezley Aldrich

CHRISTMAS came a little early for retired farmers at Barnard Castle Auction Mart last week.

Not only were they treated to a sumptuous Christmas lunch, prepared and served by Utass volunteers Lezley Aldrich, Janice Allinson and Rosemary Thompson, they were given goodie bags by local builders’ merchants S&A.

Members of staff from S&A handed over the goodie bags filled with a range of essential and non-essential food items.

Owner Glenys Catterson said: “Last year we provided the bags to members of Teesdale Day Clubs, but we’ve expanded it to Utass retired farmers and we just wanted to say thank you for all your support over the years for helping us become the business we are.”

As well as the goodie bags, funded by a pre-Christmas prize draw run by the company, Ms Catterson and her staff provided a few bottles of whiskey for the festive lunches.
