Young stars show off their stage skills

ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE: The senior Turrets are all smiles before their performance of an original play called Charlie

BARNARD Castle’s young stage stars showcased their skills at the special performance at The Witham.
The event was organised to highlight the work members of the Turrets Youth Theatre Group had done during the spring term and to encourage others to come along and have a go.
Two performances were held before an audience of family and friends.
The junior Turrets, who are aged eight to 11, put their own spin on some familiar fairy tales.
The entertaining show also featured an excellent “Turrets TV” crew lampooning how what was happening might be reported on a rolling news channel.
Turrets leader Christina Castling said the ideas had come from the young performers, who had then worked out how they wanted to stage the show.
The senior Turrets, aged 12 and older, came up with an original play, called Charlie.
“Charlie” never actually appeared in the play, with each of the characters on stage demonstrating the part he played in their lives and what he meant to them.
The Turrets Youth Theatre Group is based at The Witham and meets weekly on a Wednesday.
The new term starts on Wednesday, April 19, and runs through to the middle of July.
The junior group meets from 4pm to 5.30pm, with the seniors following from 5.45pm to 7.15pm.
Full details of cost and how to book, along with more information, is available at www.thewitham.org.uk or call 01833 631107.
