TWO musicians from opposite ends of Scotland are bringing an exciting evening of music to Barningham Village Hall on Saturday, March 24.
Fiddle player Catriona Price, from Orkney, and harpist Esther Swift, from Peebles, make up Twelfth Day. Classically trained at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music, they have quickly established themselves as two of the best, most adventurous and interesting young players on the Scottish music scene, playing a mix of folk, jazz and classical.
They will be feature music from their new album, Cracks in the Room. Their show in Barningham is part of a month-long tour starting in Glasgow and travelling via Aberdeen, Orkney, the North Pennines and London and finishing in Manchester.
Robin Brooks, a member of Barningham Village Hall Committee, said: “Twelfth Day are top class performers blending different musical genres and styles of playing to brilliant effect. The audience can expect an evening of adventurous, edgy and stylish music. The show is coming to us under the banner of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme.
“We’ve had some great music shows from Highlights in the past, featuring a range of instruments from harp to flamenco guitar, and this promises to be up there with the best of them. The only other dates in the north for Twelfth Day’s current tour are in Cumbria and Northumberland so this is definitely the only chance to see them in Teesdale.”
The show starts at 7.30 pm and tickets cost £9.50 for adults, £4 for children and £20 for families.
