Crowds rock up to Barney CC Bands Day

LET'S ROCK: More than 1

A CROWD of more than 1,000 flocked to Barney cricket ground on Saturday for the annual Bands Day. Throughout a warm, sultry afternoon, they heard music from six groups.

Put into the mood for the day by town favourites Geriatric and the Pacemakers, they were later treated to rollicking sets by The Glammed and The Understudies.

It was one of those days when everyone seemed to go home happy.

Jimmy Raine, chairman of the organising committee, said: “We were delighted, as ever, with the support we got from the people of the town.

“We hope the Big Day Out, Barney’s own one-day pop festival, has become part of the town’s social calendar but we couldn’t do it without a great deal of understanding.

“People queuing for bars and the toilets were extremely patient and we’re grateful for that. And our neighbours, not all of whom want to attend the event, couldn’t be more understanding. By the end we hope that most of them could say they’d had a big day out.”
