Art brings in cash for Gainford’s village hall

ART SHOW: Artists Patrick Langdon

AN art exhibition has raised hundreds of pounds for the village hall where it was staged.

The 39th annual Gainford Art Festival featured 28 artists as well as work done by children from the village school when it got underway earlier this month.

The exhibition was started in the late 1970s by a group of friends and has grown considerably over the years.

Organiser Graham Langdon said: “It used to be all flowers and landscapes but now there is a big variety. We have some new people I never heard of before.”

In previous years the children’s works were exhibited alongside those of the adults but this year they had their own space in upstairs.

Mr Langdon said: “The kids have a wonderful fresh approach.”

Donations and proceeds from auctions, including a silent auction for a portrait done by artist Christine Ruhstofer, raised about £500.

Mr Langdon’s wife, Amanda Thomas, who is also on the village hall committee, said: “All of that goes to the village hall which we are planning to upgrade.”
